Biography

Louise dee (b1970 England) is a visual artist working with drawing and painting. Her practice is an exploration of the complexities and ambiguity of the human experience with a focus on wellness and health. Starting with drawing she uses simplified forms and the language of comics to express her ideas in oil paint and pastel on canvas. Her work is personal, rooted in both observation and encounters with others and an ongoing introspective exploration of self. Narrative, the subconscious, identity and agency are central and recurring themes in her work and her research touches on early medical theories, psychoanalysis, and existential philosophy; tracing connections between historical understandings of the mind and contemporary reflections on selfhood and interrelatedness. Louise lives in Canada and works between studios in London and Vancouver.
